LDS 1 preview: Wang vs. Robertson

First let's look at who's hot and who's cold (last 7 days ops):
Arod, 1.684
Posada, 1.313
Giambi, 1.300

Damon, .717
Melky, .572
Phillips, .500

Nate Robertson vs. Yankees 2004-2006
1-4, 4.72 era

2006
0-2, 4.60 era (a poor start in late May, but a very good start in late August)

Robertson vs. Yankee hitters - career ops (at-bats)
Damon, 1.173 (17)
Jeter, .625 (16)
Abreu, .400 (5)
Sheffield, .347 (8)
Giambi, 1.315 (10)
Arod, 1.013 (19)
Matsui, .606 (11)
Posada, .657 (11)
Cano, .667 (12)
Melky, .500 (8)
Bernie, .598 (14)

Todd Jones vs.
Damon, .985 (7)
Jeter, 1.167 (12)
Abreu, 000 (1)
Sheff, 1.000 (10)
Giambi, 1.400 (8)
Arod, .895 (13)
Matsui, 000 (2)
Posada, .862 (10)
Cano, 000 (2)
Melky, 000 (1)
Bernie, 1.069 (8)

Look for Damon, Giambi & Arod to hit Robertson well. And pretty much the whole team hits Todd Jones well, the only exceptions being those guys who've faced him less than thrice.

Now Detroit's hot/cold hitters:
Irod, 1.200
Stairs, 1.078
Ordonez, .899

Inge, .655
Monroe, .534
Infante, .333

Wang vs. Detroit (career)
3-0, 2.52 era

2006
1-0, 3.86 era (a terrible start in early June, a great start against Robertson in late August)

Wang vs. Detroit hitters - career ops (at-bats)
Polanco, 4.000 (1)
Monroe, .182 (5)
Casey, 000 (3)
Ordonez, .400 (3)
Guillen, .664 (10)
Irod, .450 (10)
Inge, .666 (12)
Granderson, 1.171 (5)
Infante, .500 (4)
Stairs, 1.000 (3)

Rivera vs.
Polanco, 000 (1)
Monroe, .143 (6)
Casey, 000 (1)
Ordonez, 1.045 (11)
Guillen, .286 (7)
Irod, .883 (20)
Inge, .334 (6)
Granderson, 000 (1)
Infante, 000 (2)
Stairs, .333 (12)

So look for Granderson to possibly do damage against Wang, and for Irod and Ordonez to hit Rivera. If Rivera faces those guys, he should try to stay inside against them. One of the reasons they've hit him well is they like the ball outside, where Rivera throws it to righties.
